His Beatitude
Ignatius Youssef III Younan
Patriarch of the Syriac Catholic Church
Beirut
Your Beatitude,
Please allow me to take the opportunity to congratulate you on your 80th Birthday and to express my heartfelt best wishes.
The message of your speech at a conference in Budapest in 2017 is still vivid in my mind: Let us not let the cradle of Christianity to become a museum. The proponents of the culture of destruction, sometimes with weapons, sometimes with words, are becoming increasingly vocal in their denial of the values of the past in and in their dismantling of the millennia-old bastions of Christianity.
We will not allow it! In this struggle, it gives me a great comfort to know that I have been able to count on the support and wisdom of Your Beatitude, for many years. Please allow me to express my gratitude and sincere appreciation for your unwavering faith and unfailing commitment to the Christian communities in need in the Middle East, even in the most difficult times. Your service and advocacy is not only an example to us, but also gives us strength to face the challenges ahead.
I can assure you that Hungary will continue to stand in solidarity with the persecuted Christian communities. I trust that I can continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with Your Beatitude in the fight to preserve and strengthen our shared values.
Budapest, 15 November 2024
With great esteem, seeking the blessing of God for your work
Viktor Orbán
Prime Minister of Hungary
